Head out

The Route is the red line you follow, on a bike or on foot. It's what your GPS will record, and the art your Strava followers will see. RouteDoodle makes it from your Drawing, along real roads and paths, and keeps it up to date as you change your doodle.

See it the way Strava will: hold down Spacetouch and hold the Route button, and only the Route shows. Let go to get back to your doodle.

Bike, run, or fly

Bike Mode

For riding. Bike lanes and bike paths come first, then quiet streets. Busy roads, rough surfaces, footpaths, and stairs are avoided.

Run Mode

For running. Sidewalks and footpaths come first, and one-way streets go both ways. Busy roads with no sidewalk are avoided.

Bird Mode

A straight line, shown dashed, for where the map shows no way through but you can get across, like a field, or for the pause-and-resume trick.

The Bike Mode Run Mode Bird Mode buttons set the mode for what you draw or trace next. To change part of your Route, select its points first, then clicktap a mode; to change all of it, select all with ControlA. See How RouteDoodle picks roads for more.

Before you go

  • Directions
Turn by turn, also called a cuesheet. ClickTap Directionsor press D.Open the Directions tab at the bottom of the screen, or press D.Open the Directions tab at the right edge of the screen, or press D.
  • Route stats
In the corner of the map: how far it is, how much climbing there is, and more. See Route Stats for what each one means.
  • Take it with you
Export it to your bike computer, watch, or phone, with directions to follow.
  • Stay safe
RouteDoodle puts how the route looks first, so look over anything doubtful before you go. See Safety for what to look for.
When the Route goes somewhere odd
  • RouteDoodle picks roads that follow your drawing, not the quickest way there. See How RouteDoodle picks roads for what it avoids, and how to see why it used a particular road.
  • Where RouteDoodle can't find any way between two points, it draws that stretch as a straight line, as in Bird Mode.
  • Dragging a point on the Route is the same as dragging the point on the Drawing it goes with. See Fine-tune for the rest.

E shows or hides the Route. D shows the directions.
